What our tree surgeon covers

A qualified, family run tree surgery team covering pruning, removal, stump grinding and everything in between, for homes across Buckinghamshire and the Chilterns.

One call for the whole job

Pruning, removal, stump grinding or a mix of all three, we scope the whole job in one visit instead of sending you to a different specialist.

Honest recommendations

If a tree can be safely pruned rather than removed, we say so. We will never recommend work that is not genuinely needed just to increase the quote.

TPO and conservation area advice

Many Buckinghamshire gardens sit inside conservation areas or hold protected trees. We check this before work is agreed, since the fine falls on the homeowner.

Work to BS3998 standard

All tree work is carried out in line with British Standard tree work recommendations, whatever the size or type of job, domestic or commercial.

Site left clean

We clear all timber, branches and green waste as standard, so your garden is left tidy on completion rather than needing a second clean-up visit.

What tree surgeon typically costs

As a general tree surgeon we handle a wide range of jobs, so these are our published starting prices for each type of work. Actual cost depends on access, tree size and species, proximity to buildings, TPO or conservation area consent, and waste volume.

Pruning or crown work, single tree£500Quoted after site visit
Tree removal£750Quoted after site visit
Stump removal£150Quoted after site visit

Protected trees, TPOs and conservation areas

Many trees across Buckinghamshire and the Chilterns are protected by a Tree Preservation Order, or sit within a conservation area. Carrying out work on a protected tree without the council's consent is an offence, and the liability falls on the tree owner, not the contractor.

Before any work starts we check whether a tree is protected, prepare the council application on your behalf where consent is needed, and carry out the work to the specification the council approves. It is one less thing for you to worry about, and it keeps you the right side of the rules.

Three steps to a tidy garden

1

Tell us what you need

Describe the tree or trees, the issue and what you are hoping to achieve, whether that is pruning, removal, or something else.

2

Site visit and written quote

We carry out a free site visit to assess the job and check for any TPO or conservation area status, then follow up with a written, no-obligation quote.

3

Work carried out and site cleared

Our team completes the agreed work to BS3998 standard and clears all timber, branches and waste before leaving.

What our customers say

5-star reviews on Google
Ashton and Adam were really helpful and did a great job of clearing dead wood and scrub out of our copse.
John ParfitGoogle review
We have used QHA a number of times in recent years and have always been very satisfied by the quality and value of their work. Most recently, a few weeks ago we had a day's work done by two of Ben's staff on the most miserable of wet days.

Faultless experience from start to finish. The price they quoted was the best of any company I spoke to, and significantly better than some.

Frequently asked questions

What tree surgery services do you offer?
We cover the full range of domestic tree work, including tree pruning and shaping, crown reduction, tree felling and removal, stump grinding, site clearance and tree surveys. Tell us what you are dealing with and we will advise on the right approach rather than defaulting to the most expensive option.
How do I know if my tree needs pruning or removing?
If a tree is overhanging your property, dropping heavy branches, showing signs of disease, or looks structurally unstable, it is worth having it assessed. In many cases careful pruning is enough, and we will always give an honest recommendation based on what we find on site rather than pushing removal unnecessarily.
Do I need permission for tree work in Buckinghamshire?
You may. If a tree is covered by a Tree Preservation Order or sits in a conservation area, you need consent before work starts, and conservation areas require six weeks' council notice. A breach fines the homeowner up to £20,000. We check this on every enquiry before quoting.
How much does tree surgery cost?
It depends on the work. Pruning starts from £500, tree removal from £750 and stump removal from £150. The final figure reflects tree size and species, access, proximity to buildings, any TPO or conservation area consent, and waste volume. We quote in writing after seeing the job.
Are you a qualified and insured tree surgeon?
Yes, we are ARB Approved Contractors, CHAS accredited, and work to BS3998. We are insured up to £10 million public liability, the figure published on our own website, and can provide the certificate on request.
Which areas do you cover?
We work across Buckinghamshire and the Chilterns, including Amersham, Beaconsfield, Gerrards Cross, High Wycombe, Chesham, Marlow and Chalfont St Peter. Get in touch with your postcode and we will confirm whether we can reach you.
