Assessment before we cut

Every felling job starts with an assessment of the tree and its surroundings, including whether it is covered by a TPO or conservation area.

Controlled single-drop felling

Where there is enough clear space, we fell the tree in a single controlled drop, planned to protect fences, planting and anything else nearby.

Sectional dismantling in tight spaces

In gardens close to buildings or fences, we remove the tree piece by piece from the top down using specialist rigging, lowering each section under control.

Timber and debris cleared

All timber and debris are cleared from the site on completion. Logs or chippings can be set aside for you on request instead of being taken away.

Stump grinding available same visit

We can arrange stump grinding at the same time as felling if required, so the job finishes in one visit rather than two separate call-outs.

This is our published starting price for tree removal work, which felling falls under. Cost depends on access, the tree's size and species, proximity to buildings or power lines, whether TPO or conservation area consent is needed, and the volume of waste.

Protected trees, TPOs and conservation areas

Many trees across Buckinghamshire and the Chilterns are protected by a Tree Preservation Order, or sit within a conservation area. Carrying out work on a protected tree without the council's consent is an offence, and the liability falls on the tree owner, not the contractor.

Before any work starts we check whether a tree is protected, prepare the council application on your behalf where consent is needed, and carry out the work to the specification the council approves. It is one less thing for you to worry about, and it keeps you the right side of the rules.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need permission to fell a tree?
If the tree is subject to a Tree Preservation Order or is inside a conservation area, yes. You need consent from the local planning authority before felling, and conservation areas require six weeks' notice to the council. Breaching a TPO risks a fine of up to £20,000 for the homeowner. We check protection status before quoting.
What method do you use to fell trees?
Where space allows, we fell in a single controlled drop. In confined gardens close to buildings or fences, we use sectional dismantling, removing the tree from the top down in pieces using ropes and rigging, so the descent of each section stays under control.
How much does tree felling cost?
Felling starts from £750, the same published starting point as other removal work. The final price depends on the tree's size and species, access, proximity to buildings or power lines, any TPO or conservation area consent needed, and how much waste there is to clear. We quote in writing after seeing the site.
Are you insured?
Yes, we are insured up to £10 million public liability, the figure published on our own website. We are happy to provide the certificate before work starts, whatever the size of the felling job you need doing.
Can you fell trees in a garden close to my house?
Yes. Sectional dismantling lets us work safely near buildings, fences and other structures by removing the tree in manageable sections from the top down, rather than needing a full clear drop zone for the whole tree.
What happens to the timber after felling?
We remove all timber, branches and green waste from site as standard and recycle it responsibly. If you would like logs for firewood or chippings for the garden, let us know before we start and we will set them aside for you rather than clear them away.
