What our crown reduction & pruning covers
Careful crown reduction, thinning and pruning that keeps a tree healthy, safe and in proportion, carried out to British Standard by qualified arborists across Buckinghamshire.
Assessment of what the tree needs
We look at the tree's species, condition and surroundings before recommending reduction, thinning or a lighter prune to match what it needs.
TPO and conservation area checks
Pruning a protected tree still needs consent. We confirm any TPO or conservation area status before cutting starts, since the fine falls on the homeowner.
Crown reduction
Cutting back the outer branches to reduce the canopy's size, useful where a tree has outgrown its space or carries weight-prone branches.
Crown thinning
Selectively removing branches within the canopy to let more light and air through while keeping the tree's natural shape and overall size.
Deadwood and disease removal
Reduction and thinning are also a chance to spot and remove deadwood or diseased branches before they become a bigger problem.
What crown reduction & pruning typically costs
This is our published starting price for pruning and trimming work. Cost depends on tree size and species, access, how extensive the reduction or thinning needs to be, and whether TPO or conservation area consent applies.
Protected trees, TPOs and conservation areas
Many trees across Buckinghamshire and the Chilterns are protected by a Tree Preservation Order, or sit within a conservation area. Carrying out work on a protected tree without the council's consent is an offence, and the liability falls on the tree owner, not the contractor.
Before any work starts we check whether a tree is protected, prepare the council application on your behalf where consent is needed, and carry out the work to the specification the council approves. It is one less thing for you to worry about, and it keeps you the right side of the rules.

What our customers say
We had Quill Hall Arb in with Lewis and Terry to reduce our 2 semi mature Beech trees. After discussing the job initially with Ben at the quote stage we went with a 30% reduction opposed to Pollarding as suggested by several other firms.
Knowledgeable & reliable I would highly recommend Quill Hall. Great advice & on the day were friendly & efficient & left my garden tidy after pollarding my tree.
Really happy with our 2 apple tree Pollards, recommended from our neighbour who we've seen Quill Hall visit serval times and do a very smart job. On time, friendly, great comns and fair price
